Mitzi Donates

Three Rivers and Mitzi discovered each  other in cyberspace. We all met up at the festival and realized we'd met the previous year. She knew we made items to donate and brought 4 afghans and a hat/scarf for us.

I truly find the blue and brown square
afghan a cut above the usual, as well as the hat/scarf.

Is there anyone out there who thinks these are good items for  an auction?

More Pix from the Festival

You can see all the activity in the presentation area. There were screens to weave on and small cardboard looms for weaving that were very popular; there was a chance to hammer out your own shawl  pin; and demonstrations of looming, spinning, and book signings!
Back inside Leah is demonstrating software for knitting machines. Then Sarah Grossman is showing  off  one of the bunnies that was for sale to Ginnie at Highland Alpaca. Dianne and her husband are in the Creatively Dyed booth. Dianne is a big supporter of Ravelry and has organized several meetups.
Mitzi and Chris are "chilling" out in the lobby between classes. And I hooked up with Heather in a hallway. Heather helped start Three Rivers Crochet and then had to move. She's still too far away to make meetings.
Last pic is of those from 3Rivers who took Crochet Like a Pro with Robyn Chachula. That's Rebecca, me. Robyn, Karen and Chris.
Shelli and Theresa were at the festival but I didn't get them in a pic. Sorry, gals!

Pittsburgh Knit & Crochet Festival #5

Very, very busy. Many, many people. These pictures are from inside the yarn market. I was merely trying to give an impression of what a market is like. A feast for colors. And you need to touch.
In the second picture down that's how close I could get to "Yarns by Design" 's booth and the best picture I could take.

Lyn and Joe's Latest Round Up

As you can see Lynn and Joe have been working on some great looking afghans. They are making these items for donation or possibly a silent auction for charity.
The yellow and pink afghans have pretty ripple and shell stitches while 4 others were made using the diagonal stitch, The suede afghan feels so goo-ood.
But Joe likes to challenge himself. How about this knitted back and white afghan?

Hi Chris

Chris stopped by on the 31st after finding us on the web. We love having new friends find us, meet us, and hopefully enjoy themselves enough to hook up regularly.
We have members that can only show up once in awhile (like Becky on the 7th) and others who "dream" of making it some  Saturday soon. Some  are just too far away to make the trip practical and just enjoy keeping an eye on us.
We are really hoping you'll keep an eye out for us at the festival. Only five of us will be there; we'll be wearing our Three Rivers Crochet pins and wire rose pins. Find us!
Now back to Chris. She made a really great afghan and my picture does not do it justice. Wouldn't you love to get it for a present? Chris is another one those crocheters who just gives most everything away. Although she did manage to make the string bag in the photo for herself. So much more lovely than the $1 ones sold everywhere. Hope to see you at the festival, Chris!

The Crocheters Win!

Once upon a time Karen and I decided to do a CAL ( crochet along). That's when everyone follows the same pattern and works on it approximately in parallel time but not necessarily the same color, yarn or size. The "knitters" thought they would do the same.
This particular sweater is from Crocheted Aran Sweaters by Jane Snedden Peever, which I believe is now out of print. We both had the book and had always wanted to do this particular sweater.
Karen used Cascade 220, which is a wool and cotton mix. I used Lion Brand's Wool-Ease, which is wool and acrylic. The shade is natural heather and not the usual whiter color that Karen chose. Karen's sweater seems more polished and dressy, while mine is more rustic and casual.
The closeups are so you can see the details of the stitches.
The knitters, however,  have still not got their act together. Somebody is swatching, somebody is looking for yarn, and somebody actually has a back almost finished. But they didn't even get the idea of a KAL right! They're all using different patterns.
Crocheters Win!

Three Yarntini Luncheon Cancelled

Late afternoon on Friday the 30th, the Pittsburgh Knit & Crochet Festival determined to invest no more effort or energy in the Three Yarntini Luncheon with 75 reservations and cancelled the luncheon scheduled for the 14th.

Three Rivers Crochet is extremely disappointed at the loss of this opportunity to raise funds for Rwanda Knits and the Women's  Shelter.

We greatly appreciate your continuing support of our charities and our future endeavors.
